The Vice-Chancellor, of Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State, north-central Nigeria, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, says the university is not relenting in efforts in its avowed determination to be the best among its contemporaries established in 2011 and become one of the top ten universities in Africa.
The Reporters recalls that the then administration of Dr.Goodluck Jonathan established the university and eight others to boost university education in the country.
He restated the commitment at the Adankolo campus of the university in Lokoja during the matriculation and administration of oath to 4,347 fresh students into six faculties, including the newly established College of Health Sciences, for the 2022/2023 academic session.
The vice chancellor told the students that the institution had been maximizing its human and material resources to become a world-class University recognized for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement and urged them to be part of the transformative agenda of his administration.
He specifically told the new students: "Today marks the beginning of a transformative chapter in your lives, and I assure you that the Federal University Lokoja community is here to support and guide you every step of the way.
”It is a symbolic event that formally marks your induction into the University family. It signifies your commitment to academic excellence, personal growth, and the pursuit of knowledge.
“As you take the matriculation oath today, you are embracing the values and ethos of Federal University Lokoja, and I encourage you to cherish this moment as a turning point in your lives."
The VC, who further told the students that the university had guiding principles upon which it prides itself, urged them to see these principles "as the compass for the attainment of their academic innovation, social responsibility, and transformative impact."
He, therefore, advised the matriculants to take their lectures seriously by committing their time to attend classes regularly, actively engaging with their lecturers, and seeking clarification, whenever necessary.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, warned the students to steer clear of all social vices, such as criticism, stressing that any student caught in such vices, such as cultism as well as misusing social media would face the full wrath of the law.
