The Director General,Niger State Bureau of Religious Affairs, Dr. Umar Farooq Abdullahi, has called for unity among Christians and Muslims to counteract those seeking to sow discord between the two religions.

His appeal came during a visit to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State chapter, where he condemned the recent arson attack on the Redeemed Church in Kontagora as an act of mischief aimed at creating religious tension.

Represented by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Alhaji Liman MashaAllah, the DG denounced the attackers as enemies of peace and emphasized the Governor Mohammed Umar Bago-led administration's commitment to ensuring freedom of worship.

He stressed the need for tolerance and cooperation between faith communities, urging security agencies to swiftly apprehend those responsible for the violence.

In response, CAN Chairman Bishop Yohanna, through his Deputy Rev. Ezekiel Ibrahim, expressed gratitude for the sympathy visit and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and collaboration between the two religions.

Bishop Yohanna, the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, urged both communities to work together to overcome the challenges posed by those who seek to disrupt harmony in the state.
