Tinubu suspends EFCC Chairman indefinitely.

The President, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has ordered the indefinite suspension of the Chairman, of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa.


This is contained in a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja on Wednesday.


According to a statement by Willie Bassey, Director, of Information, the suspension of Bawa is to allow for an unhindered investigation into weighty allegations made against Bawa.


The full statement on the suspension reads:


PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU SUSPENDS BAWA INDEFINITELY FROM OFFICE AS CHAIRMAN ECONOMIC & FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION.


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from the office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.


2. This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office leveled against him.


3. Mr. Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, of Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation."

Our recalls that the president also suspended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr.Godwil Emefiele, over some allegations leveled against him while in office.

Like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Chairman, has been sent on indefinite suspension,  a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has said.


The suspension order is at the instance of President Bola Tinubu.
