The Joint Security Operation in Kogi state has gunned down "one of the notorious gang leaders in Kogi State, Kabir Bala, alias Okwo who allegedly burnt alive, a People Democratic Party(PDP) woman leader, Mrs. Salome Abu, five years ago.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP. Akeem A. Yusuf, disclosed this during a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday when he appraised journalists with the current security situations in the state.
He added that the killing of Kabir Bala took place in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.
He said that the State Security Council meeting, held on June 20, decided to set up joint operations, comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian, Navy, Nigeria Police, DSS, and Civil Defence, to go after Kabir Bala and his gang to arrest them and recover the arms in their possession among other decisions.

The Police boss said:" On 22nd 2023, at about 0430hrs, in pursuit of the above decisions, Kabir Bala and his gang members, on sighting the joint security team, opened fire on them and started shooting sporadically.
"The team engaged the hoodlums; the said Kabir Bala was neutralized in the process while other members of his escaped with varying degrees of injuries," he further revealed.
According to him, items recovered at Kabir Bala's premises, include; one AK47 rifle, with 3 fully loaded magazines, six locally fabricated weapons, and 2 phones and charms.
The police commissioner recalled that the state government in October 2018, granted a pardon in the prerogative of mercy, as part of rehabilitation to
, Kabir Bala, adding that Kabir Bala " remained an unrepentant criminal with lots of atrocities traced to him which include; dealing in illegal, kidnappings and killings in the state."
Items were recovered at Kabir Bala's premises, according to CP Akeem A. Yusuf.
He named other criminal cases against Kabir Bala to include the burning alive of Mrs.Salome Abu, a PDP woman in Ofu LGA in 2019, the killing of 5 Fulani herders, the attack on troops of Nigerian Navy and dispossessed them of four rifles at Alloma road, invasion of Egane Fulani settlement, burning 213 huts, rustled 122 cows and seven kidnappings along Itobe-Anyigba highway among others.
He reiterated that the ongoing onslaught against criminal activities in the state would be sustained to ensure the safety of lives and properties.
