Plateau lawmaker seeks end to senseless killing in constituency.

 By Wilson Bako.

The member representing Mangu North East Constituency of Plateau state, north-central Nigeria, Hon. Sani Idris, has called for an end to the senseless bloodletting going on in his Constituency, to pave the way for peace and meaningful development in the area.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Tuesday in Jos, Hon. Idris noted with sadness that he was coming in at the most challenging moment of the constituency and appealed for restraint.

According to the lawmaker, so many precious lives, including valuable properties, had been lost as a result of what he described as "man's inhumanity to his fellow being."

He gave an assurance that he would channel his energy and resources towards ensuring an amicable resolution to the seemingly endless crisis, to enable the displaced persons to return to their ancestral homes.

Idris, who noted that no meaningful development could be achieved in a crisis-ridden society, called on the warring factions to sheath their swords and create an avenue for dialogue.

He also appealed to law enforcement agencies in the state to rise to their responsibilities to ensure a quick return of peace in the war-ravaged Mangu local government area of the state

Our correspondent reliably gathered that before his official inauguration, Hon. Idris paid a sympathy visit to most of the displaced persons at their respective camps, where he distributed food and materials to them to cushion their hardship.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in the state has confirmed that seven students of the University of Jos have been by gunmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, DSP Alfred Alabo, who confirmed the incident, said policemen had begun combing the bush to rescue the students.

Our correspondent gathered that the kidnapped students were off-campus students of the university.

Sources said the students were kidnapped in the early hours of Tuesday at a private hostel close to the former Nigerian School of Accountancy on Bauchi Ring Road in Jos North local government.
