Thousands of Nigerian pilgrims for the 2023 Hajj, including more than 700 of them and their officials from Kogi state, north-central Nigeria on Tuesday joined more the 2 million Muslims, globally to observe Arafat Day in Mina in the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia.
According to Islamic scholars, as indicated in the Google platform, Arafat Day marks the day the Prophet Muhammad gave his farewell sermon upon Mount Arafah to the many Muslims with whom he completed Hajj, near the end of his life.
While the Prophet Muhammad stood on the plain of Arafah, verse 5:3 of the Qur'an was revealed to him.
Another name for the Day of Arafah is 'Freedom from Fire.
Speaking with our correspondent in Lokoja, Kogi state capital on Tuesday, Malam Sa'ad Muhammad described Arafat day as the day Almighty usually humiliates the devil and "free His servants from the devil's chain."
Muslim Aid, an organization dedicated to serving humanity, says
Arafah day enables pilgrims to gather at the mountain plain of Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord for the forgiveness of sin, protection, and progress in life.
Islamic clerics add that the Day of ’Arafah is the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, equivalent to this year's 27th of June 2023.
Wikipedia quotes Islamic tradition as saying that the hill located at Arafat is also the place where Muhammad stood and delivered the Farewell Sermon to the Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj.
According to the Saudi Gazette report,
the general health status of the pilgrims during Hajj 2023 is reassuring, adding that no outbreaks or cases of diseases that endanger public health had been recorded among them, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health has stated.

Pilgrims who need any health assistance can contact the call center number 937, which operates around the clock and in multiple languages, he further urged.
On his part, Talal Al-Shalhoub, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, said the implementation of the first phase of the plan to transport the pilgrims from Makkah to Mina was completed on the day of Tarwiyah so the pilgrims could spend the night there in preparation for their trip to Arafat on Tuesday.
