Justice: Man meets death vandalising transformer.

By correspondent in Lokoja.

In what has been described as the law of karma in action, luck ran out of a middle-aged man on Thursday in Lokoja, Kogi State as he got electrocuted while vandalizing a transformer belonging to the Abuja Electric Distribution Company.

Our correspondent gathered that the event happened at a substation at Paparanda roundabout/John Holt Road in Lokoja.

Eyewitness account indicates that the deceased cashed in on the power outage at the time to begin the act, adding he was about to finish when power returned and was shocked.

Reacting to the development, Engr. Michael Eneromi, Senior Manager, Distribution (SMD), Lokoja Area Office For Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, disclosed that the attention of the Company was drawn to a corpse at a substation in the early morning of Thursday.

He explained that the transformer had been a subject of repeated vandalism over a period, and described the recent event that killed the unknown vandal as the fifth in the series.

" Just last week, we fixed the transformer following a report by the community after it was vandalized.

" Yesterday, following another report of vandalism on the same transformer, we sent a mail requesting for about N1.9m to fix the transformer".

Engr. Michael expressed gratitude that the recent electrocution of the vandal had exonerated the Staff of the AEDC from the wrong insinuation in certain quarters that the staff of the electricity company was behind the vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the state.

" This is my 20 year of working as a staff of NEPA, AEDC, I make bold to say that never has there been an incidence of vandalism by our staff.

" I'm happy that the people can confirm this alongside others in Lokoja, that mischief makers are behind the wicked act.

" I kindly want to appeal to members of the public to see electricity infrastructure as their equipment.

"I call on vigilantes, security Agencies, and members of the public to always call the attention of AEDC when they notice unusual movement and ensure that only staff with AEDC identity cards are allowed to carry out maintenance on our facilities".
