Itakpe-Kabba junction-Total road reconstruction:Commercial drivers hail Bello.

Commercial drivers and other road users plying Okene-Lokoja road in Kogi State have commended the governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for giving thought to the flagging off and reconstruction of the Itakpe-Kabba junction to Total road.

The drivers, who gave the commendation in a separate interview with the correspondent of The Reporter in Okene on Thursday expressed optimism that the reconstruction would arrange to pay the deplorable condition of the road and bring lasting solutions to their pain in driving on the road.

The Okene-Lokoja bound drivers, including Isa Mohammed, Anakobe Salawu, and Umoru Alabi among others described the portion of the road earmarked for reconstruction as having brought untold hardship to them and the passengers for some years now.

"To me, reconstruction of this portion of the road, if finished off as scheduled, will be the best gift Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello's administration will bequeath to commercial drivers, within and those transiting the state.

"Some of us have had cause to park our vehicles and thrown out of business because of constant wear and tear of using to ply that portion of the road.

"It will also be a big relieve for other road users as well by the time the portion of the road is eventually put into proper shape to easy journey for motorists," Alabi said.

Another driver, Mohammed, who was feasibly elated during the interview, recalled two of his cars were grounded at a point in time due to the deplorable condition of the portion concerned.

" I used to have two vehicles plying Okene-Lokoja road. They broke down because of plying the portion of the flagged off a portion for reconstruction by our action governor.

"This action shows that he has the feeling of drivers and passengers plying the Lokoja-Okene road to other parts of the country at heart.l," Mohammed told The Reporters.

Mohammed, however, urged the company charged with the responsibility to reconstruct the portion to adhere strictly to the time of completion.

Some. passengers, who also spoke with the online news platform, commended the governor, describing his initiative in that regard as timely and right thing in the right direction.

Our correspondent recalls that Governor Bello flagged off the reconstruction of the portion of the road a few days ago.

At the inauguration ceremony, he emphasized that despite the road, being under the jurisdiction of the federal government, the recurring challenges faced by travelers and local communities, and the negative perception it created for the state, compelled his administration to take the initiative.

The governor said that numerous appeals had been made to the federal government and its relevant ministries and agencies in the past, noting that they had not been heeded.

He, however, expressed confidence in CCECC Nigeria Limited, the construction company entrusted with the project, to do a good job, assuring that the company would deliver a road of exceptional quality. 

He expressed optimism that upon completion, the road would rank among the best in the country.
