The Police Command in Niger State has directed the mobilization of all operational assets- Anti-riot water canon, gun-trucks, patrol vehicles, and adequate deployment of police personnel for visibility policing after Eid-el-Kabir in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, disclosed this in Minna in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for the Command DSP Wasiu Abiodun and a copy made available to the Reporters on Monday.
The PPRO quoted his boss as assuring Nigerlites of adequate security before, during, and after the eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Ayodeji said the command had taken several proactive measures to prevent the breakdown of law and order throughout the festive period.
The CP said:" All Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and DPOs have been directed to adopt some proactive measures, through effective intelligence gathering and raids of blackspots harboring criminals, within their respective areas of responsibility to ensure peaceful Sallah celebration.
"All the Area Commanders are also expected to demonstrate, in practical terms, a show of force and to mount stop and search operations across all entry and exit of Niger state for water-tight security arrangements before, during, and after the festivity.
"This will be in addition to sufficient deployment of personnel and other tactical teams such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordinance Disposal - Chemical Biological Radiological & Nuclear (EOD-CBRN).
"Tactical Support Team (TST) and Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command to Eid grounds, recreation centers, parks and other strategic public places across the state are to be adequately policed, the statement further indicates."
He added that an operation order had been issued to Area Commanders, and Tactical Commanders, pointing out that DPOs had been issued operation orders of specific responsibilities to provide reliable security coverage at a particular assigned Eid ground with thorough supervision by policemen.
He warned criminals and troublemakers to steer clear of the state and parents, guardians, as well as other segments of the population in the state to monitor their children and wards and guard them against joining bad company.
The CP further warned that the Police and other security agencies would not tolerate any act of thuggery and youth disorderliness during and after the festive, adding that " anyone found fomenting trouble will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law."
The Commissioner felicitated Nigerlites and Muslim Ummah in particular, for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, reminding them that the festival symbolizes sacrifice, love, help, and tolerance, the value they must imbibe.
