Motorists in Nigeria, most especially those of them plying roads in Ogun state have been urged to shun indiscriminate parking and route violation to prevent road crashes.
The Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Ota Unit Command, in Ogun state, Corps Commander, CC Akeem Ganiyu, gave the advice while speaking at a news conference to mark 2023 United Nations Global Road Safety Week (UNGRSW) on Monday in Ota.
Our correspondent reports this year exercise has the theme, “Sustainable Transport”.
Ganiyu said that the advice also became imperative as a result of infractions on roads by motorists which he noted include indiscriminate parking and route violations, describing such interactions as the commonest offences committed by motorists at Ota and its environs.
“The FRSC is appealing to motorists to refrain from indiscriminate parking and route violation, because some of the road crashes could be attributed to these two factors,” he said.
Ganiyu said that this year’s United Nations Road Safety Day is 71st and a bi-annual programme, taking place globally and across the country.
He said that each of the commanders had been directed from the headquarters in Abuja to implement the exercise at their various domains, assuring that he would go to mosques on Friday and churches on Sunday as part of the activities to mark this year’s exercise.
A similar exercise would also take the General Hospital, Ota on Saturday where personnel and special marshals of the unit would give gifts to accident victims.
