Organ trafficking: I feel guilty for my parent's conviction--Sonia.

The daughter of jailed former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu,Sona, has expressed guilt over the conviction of her parents bordering on organ trafficking by a United Kingdom court on Friday in London.


She stated this on Friday during an interview with BBC in London.


" I don’t think things will ever be the same.Already, I feel guilty, because I feel all these happened because of me.


"However, the law has taken its course, we just need to move on as one family.


 Sonia, however, denied knowledge of her father’s efforts to secure a kidney transplant for her in London.



“I do not have a hand in all the medical activities, my family is the one handling everything,” she said.


Sonia, however,  disagreed with the conviction of her parents.


 “I understand the conviction, however, I personally disagree with it. 


"That is from a very biased perspective as their daughter, I will obviously always back my parents,she added.


On her ailment, Sonia,(25),who said she had been undergoing dialysis, described her disease as Nephrotic syndrome, a kind of kidney disorder that makes the body pass too much protein in the urine.


The daughter of the embattled Ekweremadu further explained that she had two options either to stay on dialysis for life or undergo kidney transplant.”


Our Correspondent recalls that

  Ekweremadu was sentenced  to 9-years and eight months, his wife, Beatrice, four years,six months and a medical doctor,Obinna Obetta ten years in addition to having his medical license suspended for organ trafficking.


Dr.Obetta was sentenced for being a ‘middleman’ in the organ trafficking plot
