Motorists and other users of petroleum products in Lokoja, Kogi state have expressed delight as all is set for President Muhammadu Buhari to inaugurate the multi-billion dollar Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest oil refinery, on Monday in Lagos.
Our correspondent gathered that the $19 billion project is an integrated refinery and petrochemical project with a lot of advantages, especially in the area of employment of youths in the country and checking the high cost of buying fuel with the least price of fuel per litre, as at the time of this report pegged at N200.
Experts in the oil industry indicate that the Dangote Refinery, with 650,000 barrels capacity per day of oil processing facility is designed to process crude oil grades from the three continents of Africa, Asia, and America.
They added that it would deliver a surplus of about 38 million litres of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel for Nigeria daily, a development that is expected to meet the 100 percent fuel supply requirement in Nigeria.
According to Punch, a data document obtained from Dangote company revealed that the Dangote Refinery could support the establishment of 26,716 filling stations, create 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, and provide a $ 21 billion market for Nigerian crude oil annually among other benefits.
" I think it is a big blessing that Nigeria has this type of old company that will break the monopoly of the NNPC limited, motorists and other users of petroleum products will be better for it in the final analysis.
"We are optimistic that the coming of the Dangote refinery in Nigeria will wipe our tears of the high cost of fueling our cars, sooner than later, as well as get many of our youths roaming the streets, aimlessly, gainfully employed.
"This will go a long way in reducing the rate of crime and criminality, particularly those involving youths," an Okene-based economic analyst, Mr. Eneji Salami, told The Reporters in a telephone from Okene, north central Nigeria on Sunday.
