Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai has offered automatic employment to the two overall best graduating students of the institution’s 2019/2020 academic session, Mohammed Aisha Egbako and Yahaya Mahmud Baba for being the best overall graduating students.
While Aisha Egbako of the Animal Production Department got a CGPA of 4.85 to emerge the overall best-graduating student in the 2020/2021 academic session, Yahaya Mahmud of the Department of Food Science and Technology came second with a CGPA of 4.90.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu who disclosed this during its 4th Combined Convocation on Saturday in Lapai said Aisha and Yahaya will be engaged as, Graduate Assistants and will be sponsored up to PhD level.
Also, 37 students from different departments and programmes will be awarded First Class Degrees, 954 of them to be awarded Second Class Upper, while 3, 283 bagged Second Class Lower.
Others according to the Vice Chancellor include; 1, 518 with Third Class, and 17 of them graduating with Pass, adding that the university is graduating a total of, 6,154 students out of which 5,719 are Undergraduates and 435 Postgraduates.
As part of developmental strides to meet global education standards, the Vice Chancellor also revealed that the institution has created six centers to enhance Research, Innovation, and as well patency in the institution.
He noted that part of the challenges facing the institution however was paucity of fund to accommodate the increasing salary gap, payment of staff outstanding allowances and as well other sundry financial obligations.
The Vice Chancellor also expressed regrets over poor electricity supply, accommodation for staff and student and as well classrooms and laboratories and the inability to complete the institution’s Senate building and the mitigating security challenges.
Meanwhile, IBBU, Lapai has conferred Honour on the Governor of Plateau state, Mr. Simon Bako Lalong with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Administration (Honoris Causa), and the Chairman, Mainstream Energy Solutions, Col. Sani Bello (rtd) with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa).
Others are, the Chairman, Aliyu Trust Foundation, Malam Ibrahim Aliyu,Honorary Doctorate Degree of Entrepreneurship Development (Honoris Causa), while the Chairman, BUA Group, Alhaji AbdulSamad Isyaka Rabiu was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Business Management (Honoris Causa).
