The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming Kogi State Governorship electíon, scheduled for November 11,2023,Sen.Dino Melaye has asked aggrieved members of the party to forgive his shortcomings during the primaries that produced him as the candidate of the party for the planned contest.
He did this in Lokoja on Wednesday during the critical stakeholders meeting where he received the flag of the party as an endorsement to represent his party in the exercise.
Sen. Melaye urged those concerned to see what happened during the primaries as a football match during each two teams struggled for supremacy and in the process clash with each other.
He said that when such happened, at the end of encounter, spectators were usually seen sharing victory together.
According to him, members needed to put behind them grevances and team up with him to ensure that the cause geared towards returning PDP to Lugard House next year becomes a reality.
He promised to be God-fearing in governance, if given the mandate to govern the state state, adding that he would be governor for all, irrespective of tribe, religious and other divisive expressions.
Melaye commended the party for its stance to ensure that rotation of power in the body politics of the state, among the major tribes in the state is entrenched.
The candidate,who is from the Western Senatorial district of the state noted that since the Eastern Senatorial district had governed the state for 16 years, Central Senatorial district for close to 8 years, the Western Senatorial district should produce the next for the state in the interest of equity and social justice.
Also commenting, the state Chairman of the party,Engr. Sam Uhuotu, who toed the line of Melaye, shortly after handing over the party's flag to him, stressed the need for members to bury their hatchet and unite to return PDP to the seat of power of the state.
Contributing, a former governor of the state,Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, expressed his commitment toward making sure that PDP regains power,come 2024, stressing that he would not abandon PDP.the for any other party.
Our Correspondent reports that all the stakeholders iin their good will messages at the event expressed commitment towards supporting the cause of PDP regaining power in the state in the next political dispensation.
Members of the party from the 21 local government areas of the state and their leaders,as well as others outside the state, attended the occasion.
Our Correspondent recalls that on the eve of the PDP primaries,some members of the party,led by former Deputy Governor of the state,Arch.Yomi Awoniyi who is also one of the contestants, called a press conference in Lokoja and expressed resentment over the conduct of the exercise.
They claimed that "a strange delegate list"was being planned to be used to favour a certain candidate in the contest and warned of the danger of such illegal action in the overall interest of the party to return to power in the state.
