An inmate facing trial, who allegedly went  insane in the Medium Custodial Centre, Okene, Kogi state, Mustapha Shuaibu, has threatened to deal with the magistrate that ordered him to be  remanded at the centre.

The  Senior Magistrate handling the case, at the Magistrates' Court,Obangede, Aisha Audu, disclosed this to  the Chief of Judge (CJ) of the state, Justice Josiah Majebi in Okene while the CJ was reviewing cases of 27 inmates at the Centre.

Senior magistrate Audu, who also revealed to the Chief Judge that the accused used to intimidate everyone in court during sittings, stressed the need for urgent action on his case, describing him as a great threat to her life, the court and the larger society.

The prosection said the accused killed his father, mother and the nurse taking care of him, arrested and charged with murder before the Court.

Earlier, the Officer in charge of the Centre, Assistant Controller of Corrections, (ACC)O.E Audu had called the attention of the Chief Judge to Shaibu’s situation with an appeal to the judiciary to look into cases of inmates with mental health challenges.

He described the situation of the inmate as  complex, adding that necessary action must be taken as to where to send him to before his condition deteriorates.

The ACC,who confirmed that Shuaibu had resorted to violence and other irrational behaviour, even in the dock,

expressed concern that no family member was willing to take him back home.

Responding, the Chief Judge ordered that an immediate investigation be conducted  on the mental state of the accused and directed the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Badama Kadiri to write to his office for approval to carry out tests to ascertain the true health status of Shuaibu.
