Over N38m property razed in Kwara.

Property worth N38.8 million  was destroyed by  fire in the early hours of Saturday as paint shop located on Balogun Afin at Ita-Kure Area of Ilorin Kwara State  suddenly caught fire and destroyed two residential buildings beside it.


This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Head of Department, Publicity and Media, Kwara State Fire Service Hassan Adekunle,  and made available to newsmen in Ilorin  the Kwara State capital.


Adekunle said:"At about 12:31hrs of Today, 8th April, 2023, a paint shop located around Balogun Afin, at Ita-Kure Area of Ilorin Kwara State, suddenly caught fire and destroyed two residential buildings built beside it: a storey building, and the other one was a bungalow.


“Aside from the two residential buildings destroyed by the ravaging fire, five other shops in the vicinity were also affected.*


He said that the firemen were able to extinguish the fire and prevented it from escalating to the adjacent buildings.


According to him,  the leader of firemen crew attributed the extent of the damages caused by the inferno into two things: firstly, the chemical nature of the burning materials, and the other, the late calling by the sympathisers.


He said said property worth N38.8 millions was destroyed by the fire.


Meanwhile, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the citizens to cultivate habit of switching off their electrical appliances, even before the bedtime.


According to him,  this will help them prevent the chances of fire outbreaks in their various homes, and also help them to drastically reduce it.
