A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Doyin and Suzan Foundation, has distributed food items to over 400 vulnerable widows in some rural communities in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The NGO’s Founder and Executive Director, Chief Mrs Adedoyin Ibikunle-Eshanumi, while flagging off the distribution in Isanlu, said the gesture was to reach out to the less privileged people in her area during this year Easter celebration.
According to her, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ signifies God's passion, sacrifice and love for mankind, hence the need to extend the same love to the vulnerable in the society during the Easter celebration.
The Philanthropist noted that she had been reaching out to vulnerable women and widows as a form of empowerment outreach being carried out on monthly basis to alleviate their suffering and reduce hunger in the land.
''The humanitarian gesture is part of our foundation’s vision, to reach out to the less privileged and the vulnerable widows in order to alleviate their suffering in the time of need.
''We have been carrying out such humanitarian activities in this area and would continue as a way of improving the wellbeing of the poor people,'' she said.
The Philanthropist urged other NGOs, well-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to emulate Christ's love to mankind by reaching out to the less privileged in the society.
She advocated a better social welfare for the less privileged, especially at the grassroots.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ruth Ekundayo, appreciated the foundation for extending the love of Christ to widows during Easter and always.
”We thank Madam Doyin for her humanitarian gesture towards alleviating our suffering and for always remembering us at the grassroots,'' Ekundayo recounted.
Our reports that food items distributed include: rice, beans, spaghetti, noodles, gari, semovita, seasonings, provisions, among others.
