The people of Magongo, Ogori/Magongo Local Governnent Area of kogi State,say the 2023 Owiya Osese Festival will be marked with a different, as preparation has reached advanced stage to introduce Ekpase Ofufuwa Eating Competition into it.
The special delicacy, the first of its kind in the history of the festival,is aimed at adding innovation and colour into the yearly get together socio-cultural event and to show case the reach cultural heritage of the community.
The President of Magongo Development Association,MDA, Mr.Jordan Alaba Akpata, disclosed this in an interview with the Correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja on Monday.
He described Ekpase as a special delicacy dedicated to satisfy the delight of the people of Magongo.
Akpata,who itemised ingredients for the preparation of the special delicacy as garden egg,okro,oyoyo, spinach,onion,red oil among others, said " the food is good for diabetic patients and pregnant women "
According to him, the innovation is also to show to the world, the rich food the community is known for as well as strengthen the bound of unity among its indigenes and members of the larger community.
The president of the association further told our correspondent that the preparation of Ekpase would be subjected to competition on May 4 while the Owiya Osese festival comes up on May 6,adding that the first, second and third winners in the food competition would go home with mouth-watering prizes.
Akpata,who described the Owiya Osese Festival as old as the community, said It would be attended by indigenes of Magongo and those in disapora as well as their friends and other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria.
