 As Nigerians and the world at large bemoan the collapse of a seven-storey building under constructed on Wednesday at First Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, the latest development on Thursday on the tragedy indicates that seven victims,all construction workers, have been rescued alive.

Our Correspondent gathered that an unspecified number of other persons, however, remain under the debris as at the time of this report by about 6.30 a.m.

The Reporters further gathered that the Lagos State Fire Service personnel were prompt in arriving at the scene to dampvthe dust to ensure visibility.


Their counterparts from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, led by the South West Coordinator, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, the Police, among others later joined to boost rescue process.

Though the cause of the collapse remains unknown, the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Mukaila Sanusi, made the public to know that the building was not approved by the appropriate authority.

He nonetheless acknowledged that an unapproved seven-storey building under construction collapsed in Banana Island on Wednesday in Lagos State, adding that there was no fatality. 

According to him,few victims who sustained injuries were being treated, pointing out that the  unfortunate incident happened while construction workers were carrying out casting .

Sanusi also disclosed the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tayo Bamgbose-Martins,visited the site shortly after the incident with a view to assessing the situation and commence investigation.

He qouted his boss as urging the public   to exercise patience, assuring them of further information from the ministry as events unfold on the issue.
